A Christian Rock Bands PerspectiveChristian Rock, what is it for and why bother?

There is alot of debate as to whether Christian Rock should exist. These debated issues are not just hot among Christians themselves but also non-Christians. I want to set aside these debates for this brief article and analyze a few things. Here are a few verses to ponder.

Psalm 100:
“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands! ”
“Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing!”

2 Samuel 6:5:
“And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps and on psalteries, and on timbrels and on cornets, and on cymbals.”

What is Christian Rock for?

Plain and simple, evangelism. I believe very strongly that a band of any type completely and wholly committed to the truths of the gospel is a usable tool for God.  Now on one side we have alot of Christian bands that do not have their act together and are not focused on ministry and on the other side we have Christian bands that are willing to give themselves to God for whatever purpose. Many people lump all of these musicians and artists together and they should not be.

If you don’t think that Christian Rock is an evangelism tool I would like to personally invite you to our next concert. I have seen the hurt and needs in the eyes of individuals that come up to me after a concert, not a responsibility to take lightly. As much as I wish for the ability to heal these people’s earthly needs I know that is impossible for me in my own strength. However I can still share the gospel directly to them.

Why Bother?

Mark 16:15-16:
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Because the Bible clearly states our mission. To Preach! It is very important to myself that the message of the gospel get out through the music. Having vocals that are audible and understandable make the difference for me. What good is sharing from your heart if nobody understands what you are saying? We have to remember we are not just doing this for our own gratification and glory but to share what Christ has done for each of us.

Come check out a concert sometime, we play our Christian Rock in the Greater West Michigan area and would love to see you and meet you in person!
